NN Edition of the Writings of Herman Melville

Since the early 1980’s I have been involved in various aspects of the multidecade, collective editorial effort that has, as of August 2014, published all but one of the projected 15 volumes comprising the Northwestern-Newberry Edition of the Writings of Herman Melville. The first of these, Typee, was published in 1968. The final volume, “Billy Budd” and Other Uncompleted Writings, is projected for publication in 2016. This final volume is a much anticipated publishing event for many, many Melville readers, scholars, critics, and editors.
